My regular reader will recall that I support the the replacement of police authorities with elected police commissioners. Ann Barnes, Chairman of Kent Police Authority, disagreed and used her personal blog located on the Authority's website to publicise her opposition to the government's proposals.
A member of the public complained and following an investigation Mrs Barnes has been reprimanded and reminded of her responsibilities under the code of conduct and local authority guidance on publicity. Excellent news.
UPDATE18 November 2010: Sadly, the press reports were incorrect. Mrs Barnes was not reprimanded (formally censured or admonished). The Chief Executive of KPA was asked by the Authority's Standards Sub-Committee to remind her of the Code of Conduct. What a set of drips on the sub-committee. No sanction for using public money to promote personal views. The sooner the whole rotten lot is swept away the better.
